How to choose your CSCA subjects

Subject choice depends on scholarship path, university, major, and teaching language. Do not choose subjects from a generic checklist alone.

The official introduction gives two baseline rules. For Chinese Government Scholarship undergraduate applicants, Mathematics and Professional Chinese are required, while Physics and Chemistry depend on the intended university and major.

For non-CGS undergraduate applicants at the referenced institutions, Mathematics is required. Professional Chinese is required for Chinese-taught programs. Physics and Chemistry again depend on the university and major.

A safer decision order

First, decide whether the program is Chinese-taught or English-taught. Second, identify the university and major. Third, confirm that program’s subject requirements from official university or Campus China sources.

For English-taught programs, do not assume that Professional Chinese is always irrelevant. The official baseline says Professional Chinese is mandatory for Chinese-taught programs, but individual universities and scholarship routes may still add requirements.
